Here is my second attempt at utilizing natural light. My first attempt can be found in my Tortellini soup post in the link below. Both shoots came out great and other than a few things here and there, that will improve with experience and time, I couldn’t be happier with the outcome.
Natural lighting should be a common-sense thing in photography but any lighting situation, whether natural or artificial, in photography, is a tricky situation. There are so many things to factor in for the desired outcome that a time-lapse of less than 5 minutes can literally make or break an entire shoot.
Honestly, there is nothing special about these cookies, in fact, they’re frozen. YES! (Collective gasp) They are regular Pillsbury frozen chocolate chip cookies, you find in the refrigerated section at your local grocery store. I decided to do a quick shoot while I had the opportunity, and wasn’t about to sit and bake cookies all afternoon. I’m super busy. Don’t judge me.
There were a few challenges because milk does not photography or edit well at all, but overall it was pretty cut and dry. These were taken in my kitchen, which, has the best natural lighting in a kitchen I have ever seen. I have an entire wall of windows that face west so I consider myself extremely lucky.
Hi there, I’m Beth!
This site is my world, my travels, my food and my thoughts, in pictures. I am a Photographer, and a Graphic Designer, doing what I love and living in one of the most beautiful places in all of the world, Texas!
Honestly, the field of Photography is so vast, and there is always something new to learn, so that title of “Professional” will be a fun, yet challenging goal to obtain. I have always loved photography and I’ve always loved to write so this is my perfect combo. The old adage is, “A picture is worth a thousand words”, this is true, but if you are anything like me, you want that little bit more behind what the photographer’s thoughts were at the time. That little extra is what I want this site to accomplish. I will also chronicle my time learning everything as I go along, which should be quite interesting in its own right. I am hoping that maybe I can ease someone else’s fears no matter what they decide to jump into. Because, when diving head first into anything new, it can be a lonely road to walk alone.
I have lived all over the United States from North Carolina, to California, and from Illinois, and finally resting here in Houston, Texas. What started as a vacation to the Houston area turned out to be the best move we have ever made. Before my feet ever hit the pavement, I knew I was “home”. When your soul is at peace everything in life becomes clearer and less confusing, so that alone, I know will help when conveying what I need to say here.
I am not “PC” by any means, this is real life, real thoughts, real experiences, and real photos. All photos were taken by myself, all are copyrighted, and I will always set out to use as minimal editing as possible. I feel that, too much editing takes away from the photo and also from the photographer, and their skills. If you have any questions or comments about my photos or posts or if you would like to purchase a print of mine, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thank you so much. Lighting is for sure a challenge, but that’s the best part!
