stockpic2I wanted to start off my photography adventure with a photo that means the world to me.  No matter how many times I look at it, it speaks to my soul differently every time. This photo reminds me how precious our time is here on earth, how precious our time is with each other and how important it is to make every second on this earth count. It also reminds me that my community and my city are unlike any other I have ever witnessed or been a part of in my life. It reminds me of how important it is to be in love with where you live and with the people around you.

Located in my home of Houston, Texas, painted on an unassuming train trestle, a few miles North of downtown, we are reminded to be important in any way. Being a “Houstonian” is more than just being from a city, it’s about being a part of a community that will always treat you like family, in any situation. The world watched as Houston was overtaken by Hurricane Harvey this past summer 2017, and all the death and destruction it brought with it. Harvey ravished every corner of our great city, tearing apart lives on every street in every city for hundreds of miles in every direction. No one was exempt to the devastation. The world also witnessed our love for this city, and our love for each other explode onto their Tv’s across the world. We can overcome anything, we can bounce back and we can conquer anything, as long as we work together. We are Houston Strong!

When I first spotted this sign I was not in a good place in my life. I felt trapped, I felt stagnant in life, I felt as if I was standing still and the world was flying by me at 1000 miles per hour. At that time, I had been happily married for 17 years, we have two beautiful boys who were well on their way to adulthood but within myself I needed a purpose. The more I thought about it, the more I realized that I had to make the choice to be someone. So I did. This has not been an easy road by any means, but it has been worth it.

Be someone who makes a stranger smile, be someone who others can look up to, be someone who makes a difference in someone’s life, be someone who makes others feel important. It doesn’t take a lot to be someone, it just takes a moment in time to make a difference, and the majority of the time it costs you nothing. It is a choice to be a good person, it is a choice to make a difference, and that choice can be life changing for some.
